Bulls & Derrick Rose- Valuable Lessons

Last season the discussion around the NBA about who was the best point guard in the league centered around Rondo, Chris Paul, Williams of Utah, and Nash. What has happened to since then? Rondo quit Coach K's USA team after he found out he would be playing behind Derrick Rose. It appears Williams' and some of his ego issues drove Jerry Sloan to call it quits. Last night Rose manhandled Chris Paul.



I am not saying it is not subject to debate about who is the best point guard in the NBA. But Derrick Rose has gone in 6 months from people saying, "Someday he is going to be great," to this year it is a debate of whether at this point in the season if Rose or LeBron James is the league MVP. What happened? By all accounts Rose is a tireless worker in the off-season. Bulls players have swipe cards that allow them into the Berto Training Center. According to the computer records, he was going 2-3 times per day, at all hours of the day. His mission was simple- to become a better shooter so they could not sag off him. In other words Rose is separating himself with his work ethic.

The second lesson from the Bulls is chemistry. Would they have been better this year if they had gotten LeBron, or Wade, or Bosh? I don't think there is any debate that they are better off with Boozer than with Bosh. Boozer and Rose's game fit together. If they had gotten LeBron or Wade, I just know the Bulls would be much different. In my view, the Bulls have the best point guard now in the NBA, and would he have emerged and developed into what he is if he had to defer to those two? I just like the pieces the Bulls have put together. I think the second lesson from the Bulls is the value of chemistry.
