New Trier in the Trib

The following was in this week's Chicago Tribune....

New Trier girls basketball coach Teri Rodgers understands opponents have problems trying to decipher her leading scorer.
Rodgers has the same issue.
"We play consistently nine to 10 kids per game," Rodgers said. "We really emphasize being unselfish and playing as group. We want teams to not know who to put their best defender on."

The Trevians' roster underwent a radical makeover after losing nine seniors from last season's 20-10 squad, including high-scoring Maggie Lyon, now at Northwestern.
The Trevians have two freshmen and two sophomores in this season's rotation. Center Jeannie Boehm is one of the top freshmen in the Chicagoland area.
"It's been very different year from years past," Rodgers said. "One of the things that I like about coaching high school is every year is different. We're growing this year. A lot of kids are having to learn fast because they're getting big minutes and playing key roles this year. They've been real positive and doing a lot of growing and learning."
The Trevians (12-12, 4-4 Central Suburban South through Monday) experienced those growing pains in Saturday's Sweet 16 Tournament at Lake Zurich. New Trier played two highly ranked teams in No. 14 Marist and No. 4 Marian Catholic. The Trevians rode a 22-point performance from junior guard Alexa Czyzynski and received 15 from Boehm in a 71-52 win over Marist. The Trevians couldn't duplicate the effort in their second game, losing 63-38 to Marian Catholic.
"I like how hard they've continued to play," Rodgers said. "That's something I've been very happy with. They're remained positive despite a .500 record. I told the kids we want to be a team that nobody wants to play come playoff time. We're looking to get better every game."
Rodgers called the upcoming trip to Galesburg (Feb. 2) and a boys/girls doubleheader at Evanston (Feb. 8) as focal points of the season.
"Galesburg is a great trip and different," Rodgers said. "Galesburg is a good team. Evanston is always a great doubleheader."
