Jessica Howard Transferring to Knox

The Illinois record holder for 3 point makes in a season is transferring to Knox, where she will be running the System. Jessica Howard's shooting ability and Knox style are a good fit. As an alum, it will be exciting to see what she will be able to do on a collegiate level in a style she was so successful in high school.

From the Register-Mail....

Jessica Howard will be shooting 3-pointers in “The System” again next season.
The former Galesburg High School all-stater who holds the Illinois record for 3-pointers in a season is in the process of transferring to Knox College after spending her freshman year at Monmouth College.

“I’ve been trying to keep it kind of quiet,” said Howard. “I don’t want people to think I’m trying to rub it in or anything.
“I just wasn’t happy with things in general. I think everyone on the team knew it.”
Knox College women’s coach Emily Cline and athletic director Chad Eisele were not able to comment on Howard’s decision since the paperwork for the transfer is still being processed.
Playing in “The System” installed by GHS coach Evan Massey, which features pressing defenses, frequent substitutions, a frantic pace and a fondness for 3-point attempts, Howard made a state record 139 3-point shots as a senior two years ago — including 11 in one game — and averaged 16 points per game while shooting 33 percent from beyond the arc. She finished her high school career with 378 3-pointers.
At Monmouth last season, Howard averaged 11.7 minutes played per game and 4.2 points. She made 31 of 95 3-pointers, however.
But at Knox she will return to a program playing “The System” after Cline installed if for the first time last year. The Prairie Fire finished 4-19.
“Obviously I missed playing in the system. It’s so much fun and we started it at Galesburg and stuck with it.
“Knox got a lot better at the end of the season and if everyone keeps working hard we’ll get a lot better at it. I want to be part of that.”
And although she hadn’t moved very far away for her freshman year of college, Howard said it’s good to be back home.
“I was coming home a lot and I wanted to be here in Galesburg. I think I’ll be happy here.
“I know more people here. I can be kind of quiet and kind of shy. I feel more comfortable here.”
She added, “Everyone I told at Monmouth (about the transfer) understands. I’m still close with most of the players.”
