Illinois continued its dominance Saturday in the eighth annual Dearrel Bates Mississippi River Shootout.

By winning the old Iowa-Illinois girls' basketball showdown 6-1, Lincoln Land claimed cross-river bragging rights for the seventh time. The 2010 shootout also ended in a 3-3 tie.

Black Hawk College again hosted the event, which expanded to a seven-game format this year with Sherrard and Pleasant Valley making their shootout debuts.

With Sherrard's West Central North Conference going 3-0 against the larger Davenport Public Schools, Illinois now owns a 32-14 edge in the game-by-game matchups.

-- Rockridge 56, Davenport North 46: A dominating second quarter by Emily Watkins helped lift the Rockets (11-8). Watkins had 8 of her game-high 18 points in that game-turning period, plus six of her game-best 12 rebounds in the frame. The teams combined for a whopping 64 turnovers, 37 by the Wildcats (1-10).

-- Sherrard 37, Davenport West 31:
Ranked fifth in the Quad Cities Prep Power Poll, the Tigers (17-3) used a fast start and clutch finish to hold off the Falcons (3-8). All-State guard Aimee Iverson scored a game-high 13 points, plus chipped in a team-best 9 rebounds. Sherrard scored the game's first 13 points, and held Central without a basket in the fourth quarter.

-- Orion 55, Davenport Central 29: The Chargers (10-7) scored the game's first 16 points, and forced the running clock mercykilling rule by reaching a 31-point lead early in the fourth quarter. Cassidy Clark posted game-highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds for Orion, which has won 10 of its last 13 games. Emily McVietty also had 11 points against the Blue Devils (1-9).

-- Alleman 53, North Scott 38: The Pioneers (15-6) lived up to the No. 8 ranking in the QC Prep Power Poll to clinch the shootout for Illinois over Iowa just four games into the event. Zoe Kelso had a game-high 18 points and 7 rebounds against the Lancers (6-6).

-- Moline 56, Bettendorf 55 (2OT) : Jordan de los Reyes hit a free throw with 38.8 seconds remaining for a three-point difference in the second overtime, and the Maroons (13-8) held off the Bulldogs (5-6) in the first double-overtime game in the shootout's eight-year history. De los Reyes finished with a game-high 22 points to lead the fourth-ranked team in the local media rankings.

-- Assumption 64, United Township 60: In a battle between Top 10-rated local teams, No. 1 Assumption (9-1) held off 10th-ranked UT (13-6) to salvage the Hawkeye state's only victory at this year's shootout. Iowa's defending Class 3A state champs got a backcourt steal from 6-foot-3 Danielle Cabel inside the final two minutes, who fed Danielle Moore for the go-ahead lay-in. UT's MiKayla Fallon led all scorers with 22 points.

-- Rock Island 50, Pleasant Valley 24: Ranked second in the local poll, the Rocks (15-4) roared past No. 11 PV (6-4), building a 27-4 halftime lead and playing subs in the fourth quarter. All-Stater Shavonne Brewer had 10 of her game-high 19 points in the second quarter. All of Sarita Goldsmith's 10 points also came in that frame to hand the Spartans their third setback of the week.
