Morton Loses to Centennial

At Bloomington- Morton lost to Centennial in the semis, and then lost to Springfield in the third place game.


Maine South defeated Centennial for the title.

The Morton girls basketball team got in a bad situation early, trailing by 10 at the end of the opening quarter, and suffered its first loss of the season, a 46-36 decision to Champaign Centennial in a 3A/4A semifinal at the State Farm Holiday Classic.

Sarah Livingston had 15 points to lead Morton.

Notre Dame scored 23 fourth-quarter points to force overtime but faltered in a 78-73 overtime loss to Georgetown (Ky.) Scott County in the Class 3A/4A consolation title game.

Olivia Elger led all scorers with 23 points. She was 12-for-12 from the free-throw line.

Maddie Pierce was the only Richwoods player in double figures but six other Knights chipped in enough for a 40-30 victory over Rock Island in the 3A/4A fifth-place game of the tournament in Bloomington-Normal.

In an earlier game, the Knights came back with 23 points in the fourth quarter to erase a 10-point deficit and claim a 42-40 victory over Belvidere North.

In the 3A/4A consolation bracket, Joelie Zwick scored 17 points, including five three-pointers, and Kyler Samp added 15 as Metamora overcame an 11-point halftime deficit in a 46-41 victory over Bloomington in the seventh-place game.

Brimfield battled back from a nine-point, first-quarter deficit and then held off Sterling Newman for a 52-47 victory in the 1A/2A consolation third-place game. Mackenzie Eisenbarth had 16 points and Kerrigan Dura 15 for the Indians.

A seesaw battle turned Pana’s way in the fourth quarter as they turned a tie at 39 at the end of the third quarter into a 60-52 victory over Peoria Christian in the 1A/2A seventh-place game. Taylor Myroth and Miranda McGinnis each had 13 points to lead the Chargers.
