Jamie Johnson- What's College Like?

It is great to hear from Jamie Johnson. Her take on college and playing college basketball does not surprise me. It sounds like the same Jamie- enjoying people!

What have you enjoyed most about college?
I would have to say just being on my own, there is more responsibilities but not having to listen to parents is awesome!

What part of high school do you miss most?
Seeing all my friends everyday and basketball for sure

What things do you not like about college?
I really don’t like paying more bills, doing my own laundry, cleaning up after myself, all the things my parents did for me.  Haha

How do you rate your cafeteria food? Best meal?
Since I don’t live in a dorm, I make all my own food, so it is good.

If you get a chance, where in your college town do you like to go out to eat the most?
Culvers and Panera Bread are amazing

What is your dorm or apartment arrangement?
I live in an apartment with one other roommate, we have our own bathrooms! The best thing is I don’t live in a tiny dorm room. Honestly I could live with anyone, you just have to work with others and be flexible.

What classes did you take this first term?
I took statistics, psy/soc, English, reading, a college prep class.

What has been your favorite class so far this year? Why?
My favorite class is probably English because writing papers is pretty easy and it doesn’t stress me out.

What do you do with any free time?
Well I don’t have much free time because of basketball and work but when I do I usually hangout with my friends!

What from high school experience do you feel helped prepare you for college?
I would have to say the hard classes that I took in high school, mainly college writing
 with Mrs Lipe.

Now that you have experienced college, if you could go back to high school would you change anything as you prepare for college?
Since I miss high school so much I would want to go back if I could, I wouldn’t really say I would change anything or wish I would of done anything differently.

What advice would you give to hs students? In particular what advice would you give to hs seniors?
Seniors, as much you want to get out of high school, Galesburg, and your house-  you will miss it and want to go back, you don’t think so now but that’s how it is. I never listened to anyone when they said I would miss it but it’s the truth.

What have been your time demands playing basketball?
I have practice everyday from 1-3 and games a few days a week including weekends, sometimes we stay overnight on weekends but only have about 3 times.

What are the biggest challenges going in as a freshmen?
Going in as a freshman, you just have to work your way to the top. I don’t think it was too hard being a freshman though.

The best part about playing college basketball is?
The best part about playing college basketball is still being able to play and just be a part of a team, I have met some really good friends.

Advice you would give to your former teammates if they are planning to play college basketball?
Advice. . .the only thing I would have to say is make sure you like the program and you and your college coach get along well before you sign, a lot of girls have problems with the coaches.

Any advice to this year's team?
Good luck and enjoy every little second of it!!
