Every team is different. This year's team is following in the footsteps of our last two years running the "system." You can check off the same things--
- Miss foul shots early- yes
- Shoot low pct from threes- yes
- Give up layups with our press- yes
I really think that in what we are trying to do, it is harder to get things to fit together early in the year. People watching may think we are just rolling the ball out, but there is a lot to learn.
While the Streaks are going through some of the same growing pains that the previous two teams went through, they are quietly doing some impressive things. Of the 5 "system goals", we have reached 9 of 10 in the first two games. This is something we seldom did the last two years. So far we are definitely creating the tempo we need. We have had plus 75 shots both games.
A big reason for our ability to reach our "system goals" are:
1- We are really applying great defensive pressure. Rainee and Sharron were awesome tonight at the front of the press.
2- We are not wasting many possessions. Although we are still not shooting well, we just are not turning the ball over.
The stat of the night though- we made our first 12 shots for the fourth quarter. Wow!!
We play East Peoria on Friday at 7:30pm. I think this may be our Triplecheesburger night.
