For me, I have been going back to school each fall since the fall of 1957. Two years ago I was late getting back because of my hip replacement, but otherwise I have been going back each fall for the last 54 years- this makes my 55th year! I have a LOT of school memories as both a student and as a teacher. It has really been fun and most of the time it still is fun.
The great thing about the ways schools are set up is that after having the summer break, there is a sense of a fresh start by both teachers and students. It actually is an exciting time. Believe it or not, some students actually take advantage of a fresh start and come back with with a completely new approach to learning and goal setting.
Tuesday will be a special day for me. It will be Allen's first day at GHS. When he was little, he used to like to come over to the high school and help me in my classroom. He started coming to hang out and to help me when he was just a couple years old. He played on the chalk board, he raced his big wheels from my room down the ramp to the learning center, and he watched Disney movies in my room. GHS is a great play area for a little boy. We had a lot of conversations about how it would be when we were both going to GHS- that seemed like it was a long ways away. Well, Tuesday we will see if it is as much fun as we imagined it would be when he was little.
