Sergio Santos & Mariano Rivera

This morning on the radio heard Peter Gammons talking about baseball. His topic was players who study and try to learn the game. He told two stories-

Sergio Santos who has just been made the closer for the White Sox went to Mariano Rivera before a game this week with the Yankees. Evidently he talked to him for 15-20 minutes about closing. According to the radio report, every day Santos tries to talk to a different vetaran so he can learn something new.

Derek Lowe has the best record in the National League since moving to the Dodgers. He attributes it to having sat with Greg Maddux when he first went to LA. His comment was that after all these years in baseball, Lowe learned how to watch a game sitting next to Maddux- and that has changed his whole approach to pitching.

Conclusion- The mental side separates athletes in every sport.
