Who Galesburg Passed for National Record

In reading Evan's blog and the statistical records his team set this season I see Galesburg surpassed St. Mary's of Stockton, CA for the most 3's made by a team in a single season.  Quite incredible as St. Mary's is really good.  I know you would all love seeing them play; I've referred to them once or twice in previous posts.  They were the #1 team in the nation a year ago and graduated their two best players (one at Duke and one at Cal) and they're having another great year this year.

They use Vance Walberg's full court 2-2-1 press but it is a very aggressive and gambling press (not your conservative 2-2-1 variety), press very effectively on missed field goals and are very aggressive in very hard traps and sell out rotations in their front court or half court defense.  They are extremely disciplined to the style of play and play very hard.  They're brief rest (in contrast to system teams) comes after a made basket in that they are in the 2-2-1 at 3/4 + ct. but not a denial defense and that they take a little more time when they don't score on the break (to, made or miss FG) in that they run the dribble drive attack (they do it very effectively -- Vance Walberg style).  On all dead balls (full and side) they are usually in OFF denial but sometimes in UP or ON denial.  They do not substitute 5 on 5 as we do and their girls play longer shifts, quite a bit longer.  They'll play 9 or 10 in non blow out games and they have very few games that are not blow outs.

So, congratulations Evan on a great season and on the by products -- all of these national team and individual records.  They go with the territory.
