Defensively were a step slow both mentally and physically. We were slow to find people to guard in our press and then we didn't react to their movement and allowed the ball inbounds. Our success depends on high energy, and when we are less than 100%, our press just does not work. This is concerning because before Christmas our strength was our ability to catch people off guard at the beginning of the game because of our high energy approach. Hopefully this was just one of those days.
Offensively, we missed shots early and then struggled moving the ball to get open shots. In the big third quarter, we hit 6 threes to get things going- Paige Klinck (2), Jessica Howard (2), Rainee Sibley (1), and Jamie Johnson (1). And often is the case, it seemed like once we had some success offensively, it impacted everything else. When we score, we get to press in a liveball situation with the offense maybe not quite as organized. And when we score the action keeps going and tends to wear down the opponent. QP played very well today, but by mid-third quarter I think they were worn down.
We seemed to be lifeless in the first half. But a positive was to see Megan Young gather her team at the start of the second and half to help them with their focus. It was a time when we needed that. She and some other seniors helped get the team back on track!
