Morton did a nice job vs. pressure and effectively used the college court and broke the pressure with only 29 turnovers for the game. Probably the key area is that Morton beat us 44-26 on the boards.
Obviously this not the kind of game we want to be involved in. We were still within 3 possessions with 3 minutes to go, despite our frustrations. Previously we have been effective getting to the ft line. In this game we shot 14 free throws, that is only the third time in a non-running clock game we have been under 15 fta's per game.
Up to this point we have been able to apply pressure for turnovers without fouling. Our defense is predicated on pressure without fouls. In this game we sent them to the line for 25 fta's and committed 23 fouls. Our opponents average 13 free throw attempts and we average 14 fouls per game. Since our opening game, this is the second time we have had over 20 fouls in a game. The fouls not only give them free throws but they tend to make it a half court game then. 23 fouls is going to be too many for us to win with.
