Complacency is the last hurdle any winner, any team must overcome before attaining potential greatness. Complacency is the "Success Disease." It takes root when you're feeling good about who you are and what you've achieved.
The temptation to slack off starts when you're feeling good about who you are and what you've achieved. After you have spent yourself emotionally and physically to achieve the great dream, it's so easy to accept the illusions that your struggle is ended. The congratulations of your friends and family- and maybe even the media- all help you believe that you will stay high on the pinnacle, right where you belong. You've arrived. And it feels so great to let go of yesterday's hunger and insecurity. From that enticing moment forward, it gets harder and harder to make sacrifices.
Winners vaccinate themselves against self-satisfaction by remembering that some rival is always planning and working to dethrone them. While you're celebrating success, someone else is laying plans to move up in the world, and you better know it.
Once a player becomes satisfied, they have no future, only a past.

(Still don't like him or the Miami Heat.)
