Book Review

Two interesting sports books that I would recommend:
The Book of Basketball by Bill Simmons
Destination Basketball by Andrew Hemminger and Dave Bensch

Simmons book is for the serious NBA bball fan who wants an indepth look at historical analysis of NBA basketball. This is the kind of book that might actually get Tom Loewy back interested in sports. (But the price of that might be having to listen to one of his Richwoods stories.) As you read it, you begin to realize how fly by night the NBA was in it beginnings.

Destination Basketball is a great coffee table read. I would HIGHLY recommend for anyone who is Christmas shopping for a basketball fan and doesn't know what to get. It is written by two college students who decided they would see if they could go around the country and meet with famous college basketball coaches. It is a coffee table type read- with each story about 2-4 pages describing their trip and their interview. After their first visit they describe going out in the parking lot jumping up and down and giving high fives- not believing they got to see Rick Pitino. My favorite, not surprisingly, is there visit to Bo Ryan. Even though Wisconsin is leaving the next day on a European trip, Bo actually has the guys over to his house for supper and the evening. A fun read.
